Vintage Design
We offer 2 low armchairs by Peter Ghyczy, produced by Rolf Fehlbaum, who became the head of VITRA in 1977. The furniture is very interesting for various reasons: The material polyurethane foam could be liquidized into any shape and cooled to great stability. PU furniture is usually painted in light brown. The molded foam cushions with the stretch cover adapt ideally to the biomorphic shape of the seat shell. In terms of form, the armchairs are a sensation and comparable to the cosmos of shapes of Luigi Colani. Peter Ghyczy and his work are far less known, but still very interesting. One of his most famous designs is the “garden egg” which was manufactured in the former GDR after the PU processing technology was taken over from the FRG.
With slight signs of wear. The two armchairs were made in the early 1970s and are in very good original condition. Only the freshly washed covers still have some stains. The shells are perfect, the original matt white paintwork is very well preserved and both armchairs have the original paper stickers from Fehlbaum Collection. The previous owner, a well-known Berlin architect, kept the armchairs in his possession to this day.
Polyurethane, white satin finish, foam molded, stretch textile cover.
