18th Century French Louis XV Provincial Walnut Fruitwood Desk

Currently the star of our French collection featuring pieces from the 1700s through the early 1800s, this Louis XV provincial walnut or fruitwood desk is a bold example of its type with a strong cove molded cornice above arched paneled doors. The separate slant front desk arrangement below has a paneled lid which opens to reveal pigeonholes (restored) above serpentine front small drawers. The writing surface is in old worn green leather with a gilt embossed rim. Below, again featuring paneled doors the case contains beautifully grained fruitwood, above a serpentine apron, flanked by the cabriole legs (restored) of the Louis XV period. A country beauty.
