Vintage Design
In their original black lacquer finish, this elegant pair of chairs are a great example of the classic ‘yoke-back’ or ‘official’s hat’ design that developed very early on in China’s history and which is still seen today.
Originating from Shanxi province, early twentieth century, the pair show heavy wear on the footrests and front of the seats, adding wonderful character and charm, otherwise the lacquered finish is largely intact.
The backrests are shaped in a shallow curve to add extra comfort to the sitter and the top rails extend over slightly curved, rounded posts. Perfect for seating in a hallway or stylish accent furniture for a living room, top with a favourite cusion or throw.
