Vintage Design
We are delighted to offer this exquisite original circa 1920’s Art Deco fully restored Chesterfield club sofa which is part of a suite This sofa is very stylish, it has those Metropolitan lines which we saw in Art Deco New York Skyscrapers, it’s very attractive and looks good in any setting, The piece is naturally Chesterfield tufted, it has Thomas Chippendale floating buttons on the inside of the arms which is a nice touch, it also has an upholstered and tufted back edge behind where your head goes, this is so, when entertaining and having lavish parties, if you happen to be standing at the back of the sofa it can be used as a kind of high bench seat, a very good idea The upholstery is all original, thick leather that has a soft aged feel to it, the cushions have a medium filling, the seat base is all coil sprung including the front edge which is very expensive and difficult to do, what that means is where you usually have a solid piece of wood behind you legs you now have sofa springs which are padded, it changes the comfort level massively. The backrest is light foam filled so it is softer than normal, historically they were super hard and firm but this is very comfortable by comparison The sofa is currently fitted with the original Kendrick castors,Condition wise the sofa has been fully restored, it has been washed back and hand dyed six times, antiqued, sealed and waxed, the idea with this kind of restoration is to keep the period charm and aged related patina, but also give it a fresh look and feel Dimensions Height:- 80.5cm Width:- 147.5cm Depth:- 94cm Seat height:- 46.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point RH20 1DF. Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the pertaining to the condition. Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of creasing and wear, we recommend annual waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
